Springfield Walk and Roll

The City of Springfield is developing an active transportation plan designed to improve safety for people of all ages and abilities who walk, bike, or roll in Springfield; support healthy, active lifestyles with more comfortable ways to get around; help people to save money on transportation and support local businesses; and identify funding to build priority projects.

The project to create the plan: Springfield Walk and Roll, hopes to reflect what Springfield residents need and want, using community ideas and technical analysis to help decide which walking, biking, and rolling projects should come first over the next 20 years. It will be an update to the 1998 Bicycle plan and be based on an understanding of safety issues and looking at where and why crashes happen.

Drew Larson is a Transportation Senior Planner for the City of Springfield and will discuss the plan and its current status at the November 5 Springfield City Club meeting.

In advance of the meeting, you can Visit the project website to learn more and sign up for updates.

Mr. Larson spends a lot of his time thinking about how people actually experience getting around day to day, whether that’s walking, biking, catching a bus, or driving. Recently becoming a dad has really shifted how he sees that work. It’s made him think more about what it feels like to push a stroller down a sidewalk, cross a busy street, or just feel safe moving through the neighborhood. That perspective has deepened his focus on making transportation systems that work for everyone, especially families and people who don’t always feel prioritized in how streets are designed.
